National Sweater Day is a fun way to learn about the importance of saving energy and to inspire you to use less heat all winter. Did you know that heating accounts for 80% of residential energy use in Canada and is a significant source of emissions? On February 2nd, St. Gabriel will be participating by turning the heat down by 2°C. Students can wear their favourite sweaters on top of their uniforms, to keep warm! Be creative with your sweater – show the world that you care about the future of our planet.
If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 megatons – that’s equivalent to shutting down a 600 megawatt coal-fired power station or taking nearly 700,000 cars off the road!
